A cross sectional study was performed to determine the prevalence and economic significance of bovine fasciolosis by postmortem examination of 384 slaughtered animals in Awuradda municipal abattoir, southern nation nationalities peoples regional states from December 2016 to June, 2017. Out of 384 livers examined, 73 (19%) cattle were positive for fasciolosis. Species identification revealed that Fasciola hepatica was more prevalent (78.1%) as compared to Fasciolagigantica (2.7%). Only 19.2% of cattle were found to have mixed infection of the two Fasciola species. The prevalence of bovine fasciolosis was statistically significantly (p<0.05) in different body condition animals. Highest prevalence of fasciolosis was observed in poor body condition (31.9%), followed by medium and good body conditions with prevalence of 19.9% and 7.7%, respectively. The prevalence of fasciolosis was relatively higher in adult (20.2%) compared with young cattle (17.5%). But, the variation in the prevalence of fasciolosis was no statistically significant (P>0.05). The total annual economic loss incurred due to fasciolosis at Awuradda municipal abattoir was estimated 505.67 US$annually. The results of the present study showed that the prevalence and economic significant of bovine fasciolosis in cattle slaughtered in the study area were high. Therefore, immediate attention should be given to prevent and control the impact of the parasite.
