Abstract

The anti cancer activity of different parts of Mappia foetida (leaf, bark and root) on breast cell line (MDA-MB-231) was investigated. It was found that the extracts kill the cancer cell MDA-MB-231 in dose and duration dependent manner. The IC50 of the leaf, bark and root extract against MDA-MB-231 cells are 450 and 500 µg/ml respectively. Morphological changes and abnormal nuclear morphology was clearly visible on acridine orange (AO), ethidium bromide (EB) and Hoechst 33258 staining loss of mitochondrial membrane potential, extensive DNA damage and there was a slight change in the expression of the protein levels.
