The aim of this study was to describe the tone system in Shekkinoono. The data for this study were collected between 2016 and 2018. In collecting data for tonal inventory, I elicited wordlists and recorded them simultaneously. I used the software speech analyzer in order to reveal acoustic measurement of each tone type. Shekkinoono has three level tones: high (H), mid (M), low (L) and Falling (HL) and rising (LH) contour tones. The level tones occur on monomoric and bimoric syllables. However, the falling and rising contour tones occur on bimoric syllables. The contour tones are analyzedas the combination of high and low tones. In Shekkinoono, ton plays very significant role. It is phonemic. That is, it distinguishes lexical items. It also derives inchoatives from adjectives. The grammatical function of tone in the language is distinguishing declarative sentences from interrogatives. Common tonal processes involved in the language are down step, down drift, contour formation through partial spreading of a high tone over a low tone bearing unit, contour formation through re-linking of a floating high tone to an adjacent low tone bearing unit and total spreading of a high tone.
