Abstract
This paper examines the issue of climate change, social transition and economical development in Nigeria. Global warming caused by climate change has been regarded by many scholars to be the most serious environmental challenge of our time (Giddens, 2006). The current spate environmentally-induced havoc currently ravaging many parts of the globe has therefore become a source of major concern to governments, organizations, scholars and stakeholders in environmental issues. The latest of these disasters is the tsunami in Japan which started on 11th March, 2011, and which led to the great devastation of lives and properties. Climate change has effect on virtually all aspects of human endeavours (politics, health, education, religion and the economy). For instance, business activities require a conducive environment to thrive thereby paving the way for its growth and development. Adverse impact of climate change would therefore impede the thriving of commerce, business, industry and overall economic development.
Key words: Climate change, global warming, social change, economy, sustainable development.
