SOCIAL CHALLENGES OF SINGLE PARENTHOOD STUDENTS IN THE CASE OF ADDIS ABABA PRIMARY SCHOOL, ETHIOPIA

The aim of the study was to examine the psychosocial challenges of students in single parenthood from vision primary school. The target population of this study was 87 boys and 82 girls totally 169 students were selected as sample participants by using purposive sampling techniques. The data gathering tool was five point Likert questionnaires. The research was analyzed by using descriptive statistics quantitatively. The result revealed that the main cause of psychological problems of single parenthood students were divorce and death due to the absence of one parent by death or divorce creating more problems in single parenthood students. The other results reveal that students from single- parent’s faces psychological problems like self-esteem, high depression, and negative attitudes about themselves and hopelessness about their future life. The result revealed that students from single parenthood face different social problems like low communication with their parents, low acceptance and sociable interaction than intact family students and difficulty in understanding others feelings or interest. Finally, the study suggested that the concerned bodies (Teachers, parents and school principals, government and non-government) should play a great role in teaching and counseling therapy by preparing the material and comfortable situation to improve psychological and social wellbeing of students.
