Hamas: Origins, Ideological Orientations and Evolving Tactics

Hamas has started as militant movement for liberation of Palestine. It has operated totally on charter at beginning. Hamas engaged in social activities for Palestinian and soon get popularity. But Hamas did not participate in politics (Elections) till 1996. In 2006, Hamas has to decide to participate in elections and participated. After the result, Hamas became victorious party and formed the government in Gaza Strip. Wining of 2006 elections is considered turning point in history of Hamas. Now Hamas considered an important player in Israeli-Palestinian peace process as well whole politics of Palestinians. This paper examine that what are the factors responsible for transformation of Hamas from movement to political player. This Paper also examines that why Hamas got new strategy along with old ideology.
