Abstract
Piperidine absorbs CO2 in air to form the molecular complex: piperidinium-1-piperidinecarboxylate which was characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction. The crystal structure was determined to be triclinic, space group P - 1 with a = 6.403(3) Å, b = 9.437(5) Å, c = 9.928(5) Å, ï¡ = 104.90(4)°, ï¢ = 102.35(4)°, g = 94.63(4)°, Z = 2. The complex is stabilized via hydrogen bonds and electrostatic attraction. The mechanism of formation and stabilization is investigated.
Key words: Piperidine; molecular complex, single crystal, hydrogen bond, electrostatic attraction.
