Abstract
The extracts of leaf, stem bark, twigs and root of Artocarpus nigrifolius C. Y. Wu exhibited antibiotic activity against Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Lactobacillus fermentum with the minimum inhibitory concentration value (IC50) of 3.65, 5.49 and 4.25 µg/ml, respectively; but not with Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans. The extract from stem bark shows a higher anti-oxidant activity (EC50; 42.08 µg/ml) against DPPH than those of other extracts. Furthermore, the twig extract displayed significant cytotoxic activities against HepG2 and KB cell lines with IC50 value of 10.06 and 19.21 µg/ml, respectively, in comparison with others. The leaves and stem bark exhibited moderate cytotoxic activities to KB (IC50; 24.20 and 21.03 µg/ml, respectively) and MCF7 (IC50; 22.68 and 21.10 µg/ml, respectively).
