The objective of this experiment was to investigate the effects of replacing conventional mustard cake with canola cake on feed intake, digestibility and body weight change of lactating crossbred cows. CP and TA were higher in canola cake while OM, EE, CF, ADF and NDF were higher in mustard cake. The digestibility coefficient of DM, OM, CP, EE and NDF did not differ significantly (P>0.05) irrespective of dietary treatments. However, the digestibility of ADF was significantly (P<0.05) higher in canola cake concentrate as compared to mustard cake concentrate. Similarly, daily DMI and average BWG and daily gain did not differ (P>0.05) among the dietary treatments. However, they were numerically higher in canola cake. The feed cost indicated that canola cake can be cheaper replacement for mustard cake, with a saving of INR 73 per animal per day. Therefore, it may be concluded that mustard cake can be replaced by canola cake without affecting growth performance and apparent health of cows, and can be justified economically.
