The aim of our study is to provide a better understanding of the pork sector in Burkina Faso.A survey was also carried out among 32 veterinary clinics and practices in order to determine the main swine pathologies and the sanitary management of these pathologies. As far as management is concerned, the study showed that 43% of the farmers surveyed practised the intensive system, compared to 53% semi-confinement and 4% extensive. In terms of biosecurity, 56% of piggeries did not have a fence and gate at the entrance, 19% of farms had footbaths but rotoluves were non-existent and 65% were associated with both poultry (57%), ruminants (36%) and other species. The pathologies mentioned by farmers and animal health professionals were mainly parasitic diseases (32% internal parasitosis and 68% dermatoses), piglet anaemia (71%), red mullet (57%), ASF (61%), foot-and-mouth disease (29%) and neonatal gastroenteritis (36%).
