The main aims of this study have been finding out the antioxidant and antimicrobial activities and preliminary phytochemical screening of three traditional plants of Iran namely, Allium ampeloprasum var. iranicum, Echinophora platyloba L and Pistacia atlantica kurdica were studied. In this experimental study, the maceration technique was used to prepare alcoholic extract. The effect of extract was analyzed based on disk diffusion technique using concentrations of 5, 25, 50,100 and 200 mg/ml and 20 μl of the extract was tested. The microbial strains were purchased in the form of lyophilized strains. In order to determine MIC and MBC, microdilution method was used. The presence of phytochemicals and antioxidant was also assessed using standard methods. The results showed that Echinophora platyloba L ethanol extract had the most pronounced, while the aqueous extract had the least pronounced. Investigating antioxidant properties showed that ethanol extract has stronger effect than the aqueous extract, respectively. In addition, as the concentration of the extract increased, the inhibition zone diameter increased significantly (p≤0.05). Phytochemical analysis showed presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and terpenoids. The results of this study may of commercial interest to research institutes and pharmaceutical industries in the development of new drugs.
