Abstract
The communities themselves are the greatest defenders of the environment when they perceive the responsibility of humans in its degradation and their interests in its protection. The survival of the fauna and flora of the Diaban stream basin, located in one of the last soudano-guinean forests still relatively intact, is under great threat. Forest clearing, overgrazing, brush fires, and excessive hunting have lead to the loss of vegetation cover, the rarefaction of fauna and even the disappearance of certain species. The livelihood and daily needs of the community depend on the forest resources: oils for cooking and soap, fruit, honey and meat are all extracted from the forest. The goal of the project was to guarantee, through the active participation and empowerment of the population and local institutions, the sustainable management and efficient use of the resources of the Diaban Basin.
