This article
applies a literature-based analysis in its discussion of the
research field of international entrepreneurship. It uses
bibliometric citation analysis as its primary investigative
method. The basis of the citation analysis was formed by
articles coming from a number of electronic publication
databases that contained the term “international
entrepreneurship” in their titles, and which could thus be
clearly categorized into this research field. The 40
publications identified in this manner resulted in a database of
2,659 citations. Upon observing the citation analysis and the
clusters of topics that result, it becomes clear that the
research on international entrepreneurship is influenced by the
scientific fields of international business, entrepreneurship
theory, SME internationalization, and born global/international
new venture theory.
