Polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons in surface water and
sediment of Ekpan Creek of the Warri River were determined
with GC Perkin-Elmer/Clarius 500. Compositional patterns of
the PAHs were used to distinguish their sources in the
aquatic system. The three diagnostic selected concentration
ratios of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbon isomer pairs
confirmed that the PAHs concentrations in sediment of Ekpan
Creek were from pyrogenic origin and include phenanthrene,
anthracene, fluoranthene, pyrene, chrysene and
benzo(a)anthracene.
